About the ITS Projects Server
ITS provides sites for the small number of Pomona faculty who wish to have a completely public website for their their course or instructional project which fully utilizes the social nature of technologies such as a blogs or wikis. To meet these needs, ITS has contracted with a web hosting provider and set up a server for public websites.
Instructional Projects and Public Course Websites
For faculty who would like a public website, we currently offer two supported software packages on the Projects server: WordPress for use as a blog or basic content management system, and PmWiki, which is well-suited to collaborative documentation and research.
ITS will install and manage the requested software on the web server. The faculty member must take responsibility for day to day administration of the software, including managing student access, supervising content on the site, monitoring software functions, and notifying ITS of any problems.
If you're interested in managing a public website for your course, please contact the Pomona ITS Instructional Technology Group: itg@pomona.edu
Self-Managed Control Panel Accounts
A very few Pomona College faculty have expressed interest in running their own web sites which utilize customized tools and advanced Linux server capabilities in their teaching. For these technically self-sufficient faculty, ITS can provide a fully self-managed account on the Projects server. These accounts provide roughly the same degree of freedom -- and responsibility -- as a commercial web hosting account. Please contact ITS for more information.
ITS Research
The Projects server also contains an array of ITS research and testing accounts. Please be aware that these accounts contain notes and draft information -- they are not meant to serve as definitive resources. If you're looking for up-to-date information about current technologies in use at Pomona College, please visit the main Pomona ITS website.
