Five Pomona College undergraduate students have travelled to the Arctic with Prof. Karnovsky in the past.
During the summer of 2005, Laurel McFadden ‘06 studied Little Auks in Hornsund Fjord with Prof. Karnovsky. She returned to Arctic after she graduated and was awarded a Watson Fellowship to take photographs north of the Arctic Circle. After that adventure and a year of working with the Pomona Geology Department, she is returning to Hornsund Fjord this year to assist with the 2008 field season.

In 2006, Allison Bailey ‘07 studied Little Auks with Prof. Karnovsky. She was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to return to Spitsbergen where she studied with Prof. Elisabeth Cooper at UNIS. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree at the University of Tromso in collaboration with UNIS.

In 2007, the field team consisted of Nell Baldwin ‘09, Derek Buchner ‘09, and Zachary Brown ‘07. Nell and Derek are about to begin their senior year at Pomona College, while Zach looks forward to beginning a PhD in Biogeochemistry at Stanford University.
