Auk Alumnae

Five Pomona College undergraduate students have travelled to the Arctic with Prof. Karnovsky in the past.

During the summer of 2005, Laurel McFadden ‘06 studied Little Auks in Hornsund Fjord with Prof. Karnovsky. She returned to Arctic after she graduated and was awarded a Watson Fellowship to take photographs north of the Arctic Circle. After that adventure and a year of working with the Pomona Geology Department, she is returning to Hornsund Fjord this year to assist with the 2008 field season.

In 2007 there were several teams studying little auks all around the Greenland Sea.

The Greenland team was led by Ann Harding and included Rachael Orben, Ewan Weston, Nikolaj Bech and Jerome Fort.

Two teachers, Mary Anne Pella-Donnelly (Chico, CA) and Karin Holser (AK) were at the Greenland site with a group of school children from Ittoqqortoormiit in August. http://polartrec.com/little-auks-in-greenland/overview
