Doing the Full Monty with Jacques Lacan:
Spectatorship, Sexual In-Difference, and the Phallus
Jennifer Friedlander
Edgar E. and Elizabeth S. Pankey Professor of Media Studies and Assistant Professor of Art and Art History,
In this lecture Jennifer Friedlander explores the implications of Jacques Lacan’s notion of sexuation on film studies scholarship. Whereas film studies scholarship tends to ask how spectatorship may be influenced by sexual difference, this talk will examine how particular spectatorial encounters may facilitate different “sexuated†responses.
