I am not yet exactly sure which story I am going to choose to cover on the first essay of the class on Cinderella, but I do have a few favorite versions. I am most interested in Perrault’s “Donkeyskin”, Lin Lan’s “Cinderella”, and “The Princess in the Suit of Leather”.
Well I am unsure about which Cinderella I want to write about. I was thinking of doing the catskin one, but now I am not sure since the essay is a more close reading and so it would be harder for me to pick one thing or subject to write about when there are so [...]
I think I’m going to write about Donkeyskin. I think it’ll be interesting to compare it to Perrault’s other version of Cinderella. There are a lot of similarities between Perrault’s two stories; however, I found the Donkeyskin story too be much more disturbing than Cinderella (the whole father wanting to marry his daughter plot was [...]
I’m thinking about choosing one of the Catskin/Donkeyskin tales for my essay, because they deviate so far from the Cinderella we are familiar with. I found it interesting (and unfair!) that in them, the father is forgiven for his incestuous desires, and even, in the case of The Princess in the Suit of Leather absolved [...]
I hadn’t thought about the essay at all yet, but looking through the choices I think I’ll either write on Yeh-Hsien or Yin Yan. They’re both pretty different from the regular Cinderella story and would have a lot of interesting details to write about in a paper. I thought it was interesting how the last [...]
I think I will choose the Chinese version because I thought it was the version that retained most of the elements I think of when I think of “Cinderella”, although altered quite a bit. Such as the wicked stepmother and ugly sister that make her do chores. I chose it also, because of the differences [...]
All the versions of Cinderella are really interesting and I don’t know which one to pick for the essay yet. I want to analyze one that seems really different from the Cinderella story I am used to. I want to look at them again before deciding.
I just got on and have about two minutes to do this…Â One idea would be to write about the various skins (donkeyskin, leatherskin, etc) that Cinderella wears, how they represent the other elements of the story, cinderella’s character, etc.- perhaps the dresses could be tied into this?
At the moment, I am still speculating on which version of Cinderella I will choose to analyze for the first essay assignment. I am resorting to reading the many different versions of the story that are on a webpage to ensure that there is nothing else that may strike my imagination as ripe for commenting [...]
As of now, I still haven’t decided on which version of Cinderellas I will use. I find all the versions very interesting, although I wouldn’t think some of the stories under the “Cinderella” category. But maybe it’s just me. I am thinking of using “Catskin” or “The Princess in the Suit of Leather”, but I [...]
