I’m still a little unsure of what I want to write about. The gender roles in the stories is something I’ve thought about and it seems a lot of other people have thought about, but how would we make that relate to German nationalism? I don’t want to stray too far from the prompt and end up writing an essay that isn’t about what it’s supposed to be about. All of the women in society and gender roles essays on eres make me think that it would be a good idea to write about this topic since there are so many sources right in front of us. Another idea I had was writing about how the brothers create a nationalistic feeling by portraying the upper class/royalty in a negative light (Cinderella, The Frog King, etc). If I wrote an essay on that, do you guys think would it be OK to use more than one fairy tale so I can show how they use the theme throughout many of their stories?
i think the royalty theme is very interesting. I mean, most of them are portrayed as the jealous/evil type who don’t really use their power to either destroy others or to get what they want. That’s pretty selfish of them. But what about the king in Frog King? I think he stands out from other royalty. What do you think?
