i was just curious if any one was having as much trouble with PD 3.1 as i was. i’ve read some of the stories, but i’m not sure the ones i’m most interested in relate to the victorian era in the ways we’ve talked about. i was wonder what other people thought.
For a lot of the story, I am not sure if I can make a strong argument about how it relate to the 19th century Britain culture. When I read the stories, I kept comparing them with the Grimm stories and thought how they are more complicated than the Grimm ones. That definitely distracted me and prevented me from putting the stories in the context of the Victorian Era. I hope everyone’s PD 3.1 is going well. Good luck!
I find the assignment kind of difficult as well, I think mostly because I don’t know what were issues in the Victorian Era. Also, it doesn’t seem like many of the Victorian tales tells us much about the society especially considering the relatively high presence of magic and fantasy. They contrast with the Grimm’s rather stark truths about life, which makes it harder to relate the reality of the Victorian society.
I think Winnie’s right when she says it’s a hard assignment because we don’t know much about Victorian culture yet. We have a sort of general idea based on the stereotypes we’ve seen in movies and read in books, but we don’t know specifics. I think once we start researching it’ll be much easier to decide what we want to write on.
