- Victorian Fairy Tales, ed. Jack Zipes (Methuen)
- The Bloody Chamber, Angela Carter (Penguin)
When I checked in mid-August, the Zipes wasn’t there yet but all of the others were. That’s okay, because we won’t need it until the middle of October. It’s readily available online and used, if you can’t wait to start reading those Victorian tales.
Class blog: You’ll write more here than I will, but I will post the syllabus, announcements, and even some random meditations here as the semester progresses. In addition, this is where I’ll put any useful links I find for things that I think might be of interest.
Electronic Reserves: Rather than make you pay an exorbitant amount for a paper coursepack, I’ve put many of the book chapters, articles, and the like that we’ll read in addition to the course books on electronic reserves. Be sure to print out anything you’re required to read for class – not only does that make annotating the page a good bit easier, it also lets you actually bring the reading to class, which will put you at an advantage when one of your classmates asks you what in the text made you think of that brilliant insight you just made. Our class password is “fairies.”
Sakai site: This is where we’ll exchange things we’ve written, essentially. I’ll post hand-outs and un-copyrighted readings (essays from students past, for example); this is where you’ll turn in drafts and revisions electronically.
