Chipotle Billboards

As I’m writing my research paper on national food stereotypes in advertising, I was looking for an ad campaign that embodied “American” ideology and food. I think the Chipotle billboard series is not only a really good example of stereotypic American values (hugeness, standardized, fast, clever/ funny) but I think they’re creative and eye-catching. Check [...]

Brazilian Ad for TMNT

Check out yet another inventive ad campaign . . . a Brazilian ad for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, TMNT. Check out the video to see how a few scenes from the movie were projected onto a building . . . interesting.
The ad agency, Ginja Interactive, that made this ad seems to be [...]

Ok fine . . . I admit I loved these Target ads

I found these awesome four commercials, and was kind of sad that I really enjoyed them . . . they’re for TARGET, after all! (I mean, come on!)
I really like the marbles ones (the first three on the list of links), but I think it’s really interesting how there are no words spoken, and no [...]

Advertising Meets New Technology

It seems like MINI has made a splash in the advertising (specifically billboards) world with a brand new use of tracking technology in their MINI Motoryby ad campaign. The digital messages on four MINI billboards (one in each NYC, Chicago, Miami, and San Fran) now change as MINI owners with registered fobs drive by. So [...]

Made of Japan

I found this awesome promotion for Onitsuka Tiger shoe company (a Japanese brand) . . . this cool mosaic is composed of hundreds of tiny images taken every 24-hour from Japan-related websites. I like how the Japanese culture and people are used to show this is Japan’s shoe. Cool.
Some of the pictures I saw [...]

small but tough: VW polo prevents suicide bomber?

I’m not quite sure if this was a real commercial by VW . . . I’ve never seen it on TV, so it may have been banned before it aired. From the Arab stereotypes in this ad—especially a really negative one involving suicide bombers—I’m sure you can see why!!

black snake deals drugs

I also found this PSA anti-drug campaign commercial from the ‘80’s to present a really racist slant . . . check it out.
I can’t believe this one!! This seems to wholly embody negative stereotypes—and poorly represented images of the ‘Other’ that show how non-whites can often be stereotypically linked to base activities, lack of morals, [...]

“once you go black, you never go back”

This Italian commercial for laundry soap was so blatantly racist it really reminded me of the tradecards for soap to “wash” the blackness off the African American shown in the picture . . . but this commercial presents the opposite view.
A woman is doing laundry, and her white Italian, hairy and not-so-muscular boyfriend/husband wanders into [...]

effective and hilarious commercial sans music

This commercial was one of the best ones I’ve ever seen. I thought it was very effective in presenting its point. And it reminded me of the boy and mom baking a heart-shaped cake ad in that there is a great twist at the end. (The sentiment in this one is quite different [...]

evolving images of Miss Chiquita

The evolution of the image of Aunt Jemima was shown in the Exhibit Catalogue of Ethic Images . . . I thought it was really interesting to see her change over time. I found a similar chronology of the image of Miss Chiquita (Banana). Miss Chiquita (Banana).
Also, I heard a commercial on [...]
